Beyond Your EdD

So I have an EdD, Now What?

Once you are done with your EdD, you may have a newfound love of doing research for impact, want to share your learning, or stay connected with other EdD students.  CPED is in the process of developing a professional network for EdD students. In the meantime, you might consider some of the following ways to celebrate your EdD accomplishment, continue your work, and stay connected.

Build Your Online Presence (link https://vimeo.com/548244563)

While many conversations about online presence start with the “how to”, this chat is designed to help you navigate challenging and nuanced questions like: Why should you have a digital presence? Who is interested in my work and scholarship? How can this work be recognized professionally? We will discuss issues of “control” over online spaces, provide resources for building an online presence strategy, and then move to discussing options for digital tools to support your strategy. This conversation will be relevant for all members of the CPED community (students, faculty, and program support staff are welcome to attend!)

Impacting Education: Journal on Transforming Educational Practice (llink https://impactinged.pitt.edu/ojs/ImpactingEd) and add logo

Consider adapting your dissertation work into a journal article and demonstrate your scholarly practitioner accomplishment An article derived from a Dissertation in Practice will be considered if the author/s shape the scholarly piece in a way that improves the understanding of how a Dissertation in Practice (i.e., process and product) advances the notion of preparing the Scholarly Practitioner. IE challenges author/s to explain a problem of practice and attend to both the process of inquiry and the particular context-specific research outcomes that fostered improved understanding of the problem and value added to the field of educational practice. In addition, author/s should include a personal reflection that:

  • Addresses one or more of CPED¹s Principles for EdD program development (available at cpedintiative.org),

  • Describes how inquiry and research skills are now an integral part of professional practice and how these skills have or will help impact pressing problems found in practice beyond the Dissertation in Practice experience.

These manuscripts will range between 5000-7000 words, not counting references, tables, or figures, and may contain up to 40 references. Manuscripts should be double-spaced with 1 in. margins and must be accompanied by an abstract of about 100–150 words as well as by a list of 3–5 keywords. The editors encourage contributors to avoid including explanatory notes whose material can be incorporated into the text.

All manuscripts will undergo peer review that may be solicited or unsolicited.

"My EdD degree has empowered me in many ways at my workplace. I am able to conduct research. I now have the ability express my vision and inquiry in a scholarly format. I have learned how to develop, implement, and evaluate the effectiveness of an education innovation.”- Lise, Arizona State University
