Details for the CPED University of Central Florida, Orlando Convening

When

June 9-11, 2010

The convening will start on Wednesday, June 9th with a bus pick up at 12:30pm and will conclude Friday, June 11th at noon.

Where

The University of Central Florida and the Radisson Hotel Orlando-UCF

Who

We ask each CPED institution to send teams of two people—one faculty/administration and one graduate student. It is preferable thatthe team members who have participated in Convenings thus far return but we understand if this is not possible.

To register for the convening:

  1. Complete the convening registration page.
  2. Reserve your hotel no later than May 15, 2010

CPED Rate: $84/night plus tax. To book your room with the CPED rate, you must call the Radisson and mention "CPED rate" no later than May 15, 2010. Please note: the Radisson has agreed to extend this rate through the weekend for anyone wishing to stay on for a few days to see the sites of Orlando.

Airport Shuttle

Unfortunately, our hotel does not offer a free shuttle service from the airport. However, information about various shuttles and buses can be found on the Orlando Airport website.

You are responsible for your airport transportation.

Pre-Work

We are entitling this convening "How do you do it? : Elements of preparing Scholarly-Practitioners"


To facilitate our discussions, please prepare the following five assignments.

  1. Dean’s letter of support and commitment to Phase II (to be used for CPED as well as the FIPSE proposal), including:
  1. Major success(es) of Phase I
  2. A commitment to Phase II (approx 3yrs)
  3. List of goals for the institutional pilot program or change effort
  4. A commitment to the CPED research agenda that will look both across the consortium, at each program, and at individuals—outcomes, change processes, etc.
  5. A commitment of institutional resources that should include faculty time/travel, GA, etc.

  1. Website update: Complete attached form and email to Jill (jillaperry@cpedinitiative.org) by June 4th.
  2. Bring 2 copies a syllabus from a course that is central to your new program—NOTE: each member attending the convening should have a different syllabus. Please email a copy to Jill (jillaperry@cpedinitiative.org) by June 4th.
  3. Each member, please bring one copy of one book that you think all professional practitioners in education should read.
  4. Bring a one page only description of your program’s:
  1. Capstone experience — what is it, how evaluated, when done, etc.
  2. Milestones — what are they, when are they, how evaluated, etc.
  3. Laboratory of practice — what is it, how used, etc.
  4. Signature pedagogy — what is it, how does it work, how used, etc.
  5. Student support structures — what are they, how are they designed, who implements them, etc.
  6. Program evaluation — what is your institutional plan for evaluating this program, etc.

Thursday: Breakfast, lunch, breaks and reception with dinner

Friday: Breakfast, Break, & Box Lunch
