At the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching and the Sheraton Palo Alto Hotel.
We ask each CPED institution to send teams of two people—one faculty/administration and one graduate student. It is preferable that the team members who have participated in Convenings thus far return but we understand if this is not possible.

There are 5 assignments but please note, they are not meant to be daunting. As we are in our 3rd year, there is much we want to be able to share among all institutions. We ask that you be clear, concise, and specific where possible. Thanks!
1. Sharing our Accomplishments and Lessons Learned
By May 15: please inform Jill by May 15 what area your institution has chosen to higlight (you can only chose one).
For convening: Prepare a poster that the highlights accomplishments or lessons learned in one of the following areas.
We are not necessarily looking for a program update but rather the what and how—what have you done that are especially significant in one of these areas? How would you describe what you have done or learned in a way that others can learn from your accomplishments?
Posters should→
a. Demonstrate the key lessons that your institution has learned from its CPED efforts to date in one of the six areas. This is not a summary of your program to date.
b. Demonstrate how these lessons will foster the growth and development of your program and your highly qualified professional practice doctoral candidate
c. Bring poster to the convening for our first day activity
2. Creating a CPED Library of Resources
By June 1: Send to Jill a syllabus of one course that your institution has developed for your new EdD to be to shared in the CPED syllabi gallery on the website.
3. Reporting to Spencer
By June 1: In order to complete our obligations to Spencer, we need to highlight our individual institutional work on assessment. Please prepare a 2-page demonstration of how your institution is examining the assessment protocol for your new program. What steps are being taken to ensure the right measures are in place to assess the knowledge and skills of your highly qualified candidate? Please send to Jill and bring one copy to the convening.
4. Developing Problem-based cases for PPD preparation
For convening: Develop a 2-3 page case of a problem of practice based on experience from your students. These do not need to be fully developed cases but rather problems of practice that we can work together to develop. Please send to Jill and bring a copy to the convening.
At the very least, your problem of practice should include:
- Statement of the problem of practice
- Statement of subsequent problems and implications
- Identification of the important players within the organization, the "stakeholders"
- Identification of other target groups of the organization
- Identification of the role of the educational leader
- Identification of strategic issues
- Identification of decisions needed to be made
- Identification of risk factors
- Identification of historical precedents
5. Please read, Ruminations on Reinventing an R&D Capacity for Educational Improvement, by Tony Bryk
